In the wake of growing incidents of militant attacks, the police have decided to launch a weeklong special drive to track down militants and terrorists across the country on Friday.

The decision of the drive was taken at a meeting at the Bangladesh Police headquarters on Thursday with the Inspector General of Police (IGP), AKM Shahidul Hoque, in the chair.

The three-and-a-half-hour-long meeting discussed what needs to be done to contain militant activities following the killings of police super Babul Akhter's wife and other ones.

“The drive against criminals should be strengthened. The community police will be used to gather information about the miscreants,” said the IGP in a press statement after the meeting.

Voicing concerns at the murder of SP Babul Akhter's wife, he urged everyone to work with firm determination and team spirit to bring the criminals to justice.

The meeting discussed and decided to update the list of militants, increase surveillance on religious organisations, deploy community police in respective wards, increase surveillance on strangers and tenants, and to ensure security to the foreigners.
